Heather's Softball Class

Heather is taking a softball class for homeschoolers at a local park. They learned and practiced skills for the first six weeks and this past Wednesday, Coach had them play their first game. Above is Heather as catcher and below she is getting some pointers from Coach as she comes up to bat.

Here she is on first.

And here she is coming into home to score!

Why My Kids Will Never Nominate Me As Mother Of The Year

Summer, Rachel, Heather, and Gwen, like most school age children around the nation, had last Friday off for Veteran's Day. So, being the fun and thoughtful mother that I am, I decided a school vacation day would be the perfect time to get flu shots.

Michael wouldn't lie down in the flu shot picture line, but here is his band-aid to prove he was a participant. He was the only one that cried, and only for a moment. Kelly actually laughed when her shot was done; she was so relieved to have it over with. Everyone was stalwart and brave.

It is a tradition in our house that when someone gets a shot, we all eat ice cream (a spoonful of sugar...) so we headed home for spumoni and pumpkin pie ice cream with caramel, hot fudge, marshmallow, maraschino cherries, and sprinkles. Yum!

Charmer

After Heather's and Gwen's literature and math classes this morning, the four youngest and I went out for Chinese before we faced the drive home on the freeway. All the kids got fortune cookies, but Michael's was the one we all had to agree with heartily.

Heather, Rachel and Summer have fun with family pictures and Adobe Photoshop Elements. Here are some samples for your viewing pleasure.

Scary, Scary, Scary

We had a fun Halloween this year. For FHE Monday night, we started by carving or drawing on (depending on the age of the artist) the pumpkin/zucchini hybrids we grew last summer.

Here are the masterpieces, in order from left to right - Rachel's, Kelly's (in back), Summer's, Michael's, Gwen's and Heather's.

Tuesday night, we headed over to the chapel for the annual Trunk or Treat and got the car set up and decorated.

Here are the kids, anxious for dinner to end and for the festivities to begin. Kelly is a bee and Michael a cow. He charmed everyone with his moos. Rachel is a Greek person (she made the laurel wreath herself) and Gwen is a REAL princess (you'll have to ask Summer or Rachel for an explanation). Heather is a pixie and Summer is a hula girl.

It is a tradition in our house to dump all your candy in a pile on the living room floor and eat as much as you can Halloween night. Michael, even though he was new to it this year, caught on quickly.

And finally, something truly scary - my mom asked to see a picture of my belly to help make my pregnancy more of a reality across the miles. Here I am, right out of bed, ready to racewalk in the backyard the morning after Halloween.
