Stuff and Nonsense

Here's the stuff -

Heather and Gwen are in the Elementary Festival Orchestra and they had their pre-Festival concert this past week. It is kind of like a dress rehearsal. The high school orchestra also played, but Summer was hidden behind even more music stands than Heather and Gwen are, so I gave up trying to get a picture of her that night :)

We have had a cold running through the house and on the day I was sickest and also had way too much to do to even think about resting, Stan brought me some get well flowers and a muffin to cheer me up - it worked!

Mmmm!

And here's the nonsense, some Moisms -

Naomi was in the habit of sitting on my lap during family prayer and I told her when she was three, she would be big enough to kneel like her siblings. I talked about it for months and she was well prepared. She was excited about it when the time came, but the novelty has worn off and she has been trying to convince me to let her sit on my lap again for prayer. Lately, almost every time we kneel for prayer, she looks me straight in the face and says,

"I am not three anymore; I am two."

~and~

Last night for dinner, Summer made pasta Alfredo mixed with olives, red peppers and asparagus. She also baked some sweet potatos, fried some kielbasa and steamed some corn. Two thirds of the way through dinner, Michael announced, "Do you know what my favorite vegetable is? Corn!" Naomi, not wanting to be left out, asked me if I knew what HER favorite vegetable was. I said, "No, what?" She said,

"That," and pointed at the kielbasa.

It's Like Deja Vu All Over Again

I caught Naomi relaxing on the back of the couch while she watched something on the computer with Kelly and Michael. Lately, she has been reminding me of Summer when she was a toddler...

What do you think?

Big Girl

Today, I told Kelly and Michael that it was time to get dressed. A couple of minutes later, without looking at her, I asked Naomi what she would like to wear, thinking I'd help her get her clothes on. She announced, "I'm already dressed and I'm wearing these clothes!" She was just finishing pulling her pants on and there she was - ready to go!

Not a Baby Anymore

This morning, while I was drying my hair, Naomi didn't want to be left alone, so she brought her project into the bathroom.

I turned around to see this...and was struck by how grown up she looked, like a kid, not a baby.

Pushing on the stapler took two hands, but she got the hang of it pretty quick.

Here is some of what she accomplished with all that effort.

Prayers

This evening, I was helping Naomi say her prayers and asked her what she would like to thank Heavenly Father for. She replied after thinking about it a second or two, "Mine Jesus, and Him died."

She likes to look at pictures of the Savior. I asked her the other day if she remembered being in heaven before she was born and if she remembered Heavenly Father and Jesus. "Yes, "she said. I asked her what they told her and she answered, matter of factually, something that sounded like, "They get rowbeetoo."

I wish I knew what she meant :)

Grammar is Strange Sometimes

The other day, I was working on the budget at the computer desk. I needed to talk to Heather about something, but didn't want to lose my train of thought by going to get her, so I thought I'd ask Michael to be my go-fer. Here's (approximately) how the conversation went.

Me - Michael, I need to talk to Heather. Could you ask her to come here, please?

Michael - Where is her?

You mean, where is she?

Yeah, where is she?

I don't know, go look for her.

You mean, go look for she?!?!

Poor kid, grammar is strange sometimes :)

Odds & Ends

Just a few of the fun things happening around here -

Naomi is practicing sitting up.

Elmo's excited about Michael learning how to sit on the potty.

The other day Michael was trying to get me to come in the kitchen and get him a snack. I wasn't responding as quickly as he liked, so he climbed on the counter, got the empty paper towel tube down and used it as a megaphone to call me.

Resourcefulness

We had bagels for breakfast. Michael was in the kitchen while I was getting things out and he was anxious for breakfast. He asked for food and I told him I'd toast him a bagel in a minute. He grabbed one and said, "I'LL toast a bagel" and ran over to the toaster. I thought, "He can't fit it in the toaster, so I'll just let him try until I get a chance to take care of it for him," but I underestimated his resourcefulness. He broke his bagel into bits and stuffed them in individually.

It's a Zoo Around Here...

...or a barnyard...or something. Michael is a cow today (his all time favorite clothes) and Naomi is a bunny. Too cute...or two cute...or something!

Dirty, Clean, Messy Again

Yesterday, Michael played with his sisters in the backyard for a while. They found an orange that had fallen off the tree and Michael wanted to eat it, but he was too dirty to consume anything without major contamination occurring.

It took two applications of baby shampoo and countless cups of water dumped over his head to get him clean. The water was grayish brown when we were done and had nameless backyard things (in addition to the orange) floating in it.

When he was all shiny clean and dressed, it was time for lunch. At the end of the meal, he was left with a cup that had an inch and a half of milk in it. He was just about t o exit his high chair in his usual fashion, by sliding down under the tray, when I told him, "Finish your milk before you get down or I'll have to dump it in the sink."

He grabbed his cup, took a big swallow and said, "I'll dump it in the sink!" He then proceeded to leave his high chair with the cup in his hand, revealing gloppy graham cracker pieces and bits of chewed up apple mixed with the milk that showered his hair, face, shirt and high chair, while I was hollering, ineffectually, "Leave the cup on your tray, leave it on the tray!!!"

So much for the clean boy!

We are trying something new.

Inspired by the cousins, I found myself this morning with an urge to put videos of Michael on the blog. I put him back to bed and proceeded with the first of three interviews, all before breakfast. He developed a case of camera shyness, so I had to bribe him to talk about the stuff in his crib with the promise of candy, which led to the second video. Finally, we went to get him dressed and filmed the last one. Enjoy :)

Is this thing only about Michael?

Seems like it doesn't it? He's just at that age - 21 months the day after tomorrow. Toddlerhood - you just have to either laugh or cry. Today he saw a long line of parking sign posts and counted 1-10. He is earlier than all but one of his sisters at this feat and I think the reason is all the times he hears me holler, "I want this bedroom picked up by the time I count to ten! One...two..."
