Nebulosity

What I didn't tell you about sailing class was that, on the last day, Gwen got hit in the head with a boom! It hurt, but she wasn't really worried until she noticed the blood running down her face. They suggested that she go home, but she was a trooper and asked to stay for the rest of the class.

We have baby lizards in the backyard. I like the blue on their necks :)

Our home teacher gave Michael another computer to disassemble. He is sharing it with his sisters.

Last week, we went back to the park where the girl's took their sailing class to feed the ducks again. Everyone was looking forward to it except Summer and Rachel, but they had fun once I let them use the camera. Here are my favorite photos they took.

Finally, just for fun...

An Eventful Day

Happy Birthday Heather!

(The candle is for one decade and yes, she does have a flaky mother who doesn't keep enough cute little b-day candles in the house.)

Heather's birthday was a busy day. Summer went to the orthodontist and had her bottom wire changed. We all loaded into the car and headed west. We went to IKEA for lunch and then all seven kids had appointments for dental checkups. It was Naomi's first time and she did well. The good news was that in all those seven mouths full of teeth, there were no cavities.

Heather wanted chicken and dumplings, artichokes and German chocolate cake for her birthday. We didn't end up eating the artichoke (they were $2 each, so we all shared one) and cake until her birthday was almost over...

(that's p.m.)

Stan and I spent most of the evening with Kelly in Urgent Care waiting for her to get her stitches and glue.

All In a Day's Work

Kelly came to me the other day and told me her ear hurt. I told her to go lie down and tell me if it still hurt after a while (my stock reply to pain complaints).

In a few minutes she came and told me there was a bead in her ear. Never mind how she said it got there, after probing, she admitted she'd put it there herself.

Not wanting to spend 2 1/2 hours in urgent care, I decided to get it out myself. I tried a fingernail file, but the bead was a perfect fit for her ear canal and I didn't want to push it in farther.

I needed something sticky, so I pulled out some gum and started chewing. I stuck the gum on the end of a toothpick and tried to extract the little pink bead from her cute little ear. No luck.

But! The toothpick gave me an idea. I could see the hole in the bead and it was just larger than the end of my toothpick. I was able to poke the toothpick into the bead hole and get some leverage on the thing. Success at last! Who says staying home with kids doesn't take advanced skills?
